Now in it's fourth year, the WA Web Awards is back - bigger and better than ever!

Again, we will showcase the best of the best: the most creative, the most innovative, the best looking and best functioning web sites created and launched in the 2007/2008 financial year. Entries are now closed and judging is underway.

This year the Awards presentation dinner will be held on the second day of the inaugural Edge of the Web Conference in early November. Sign up to the newsletter list to make sure you get all the information as soon as it is released.

Entries now closed
June 16, 2007

Nominations are now closed for the WA Web Awards for 2007. Thanks to everyone who got their sites submitted.

Now the hard work begins, behind the scenes: evaluation of all the entries.

The process is long and difficult, and Judging Chairperson Megyn Carpenter runs a tight ship to make sure that the integrity of the awards is beyond question. More information on the evaluation process can be found in the judging section.

The finalists in each category will be announced on the 16th of July, 2007.

Regardless of whether you’re a finalist or not, the awards presentation black tie dinner is a great night out and a chance to rub shoulders with the who’s who of Perth’s web industry.

Walk the red carpet, enjoy a three course dinner with drinks, and be entertained by MC Gerry Gannon as the best of the best are announced. You might even score a prize from one of our generous sponsors!

This year’s dinner will be held at the Duxton Hotel on the 17th of August, 2007. Last year’s event sold out early and some finalists were unable to get tickets, so book your spots now - tickets for members are $110, non-members $130 and students $80. If you have any questions about ticketing or the presentation even, contact our fabulous event managers Red Horizon Events on 08 9244 4621 or email events@redhorizonevents.com.au.

We look forward to seeing you on the night!

Only 6 hours to go!
June 15, 2007

There’s only 6 hours to go until WA Web Awards entries for 2007 close, so stop tweaking those sites and submit them! The deadline is 6pm (WST) today, the 15th of June.

Due to the tight judging timesframes, we can’t give any extensions. So don’t delay - head on over to the entries section and get your sites in!

The judges will have their work cut out for them with the number of entries, and seeing as we have no interest in burning them out, we figured we’d better add another. Jason Beaird, author of The Principles of Beautiful Web Design, will be joining Matt Voerman, Maxine Sherrin, Donna Maurer, Tim Lucas, Duncan Riley and James Bull on our panel of experts.

And a special shout out to our platinum sponsor FastHit Web Hosting, who are keeping our web site running smoothly through all the excitement - thanks guys!

Deadline time, and help with entry preparation
June 13, 2007

Entries close this Friday, the 15th of June - at 6pm WST. Please note the time, which was not previously advertised. Cutting off entries at 6pm ensures that WAWA committee members will be available should any disasters occur in the last few frantic minutes - not that we’re anticipating any!

Due to the tight judging deadlines, we are unable to give any extensions.

The entry form asks a number of free text questions that are designed to give the judging panel a little insight into the project. Each text field is limited to 500 characters, to keep it fair for everyone and to keep it manageable for the judges (who are evaluating dozens of entries each).

If you’re entering, you’ll most likely want to prepare your responses entries ahead of time. The list of questions is:

  • What is the intended purpose of the entry?
  • Who is the intended target audience?
  • How does the entry meet its objectives/satisfy the client’s brief?
  • Describe any notable technical features of the entry.
  • Describe any usability or accessibility measures that were taken.
  • Describe any special features that the judges should look at - is there anything else you would like them to know about your entry?
  • Describe any special challenges posed by the project.

Remember, you only get 500 characters (including spaces) for each response, so get to the point!

If you are entering the online application category, you can also supply a username and password that the judges can use to login and test your application. It isn’t required, but is recommended as it will give our judges a better feel for your application.

Good luck with your entries and don’t forget to buy your presentation dinner tickets!
